After building a long and fulfilling career as an area director for Young Life, Justin Cason started looking for the next step.

“I loved my time in Young Life — it was fun and very rewarding,” says Justin, a husband and father of three. He’d built relationships across the communities he served and met with people all day – a high schooler in the morning, a college volunteer at lunch, a potential donor in the afternoon or evening. “I loved sitting down and hearing people’s stories.”

Then, COVID.

“It was the first time in my post-college years that I was home in the evenings with my wife and kids,” says Justin. “It sparked the change I was looking for.”

He discovered financial planning, and found it to be a great way to translate his 13 years of experience from a seemingly different field. “Financial planning takes all my skills in building relationships, listening to stories, and helping build value in a person’s life based on their personal goals,” Justin says. “Financial planning was a natural transition.”

And not only that, he says: Verus shares his own personal and professional values. “They truly put clients first. The partners here, from the top down, are truly in the business of helping other people,” he says. Justin works closely with clients on retirement and estate plans, investment guidance, tax strategies, and overall support in their financial health. He is working towards gaining designation as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®.

Justin and his wife, Katie, are members of City Church of Richmond. And when he has the time, Justin enjoys fly fishing and all things Virginia Tech sports.

Justin holds the following designations and memberships:

  • Series 65 — Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination
  • Life and Health Insurance Consultant license in Virginia
  • Member, Financial Planning Association
